Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde has strongly emphasized the need for a separate law to curb adulteration in milk and dairy products. He stated that the state government will request the central government to make food adulteration a non-bailable offense.
Maharashtra Prevention of Dangerous Activities (MPDA) Act
Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde was speaking at a review meeting on the quality of primary school education and adulteration in milk and milk products on July 25th. He said that an even stricter law than the Maharashtra Prevention of Dangerous Activities (MPDA) Act should be implemented to curb the menacing activities of slum-dwellers, bootleggers, drug offenders, and other dangerous individuals.
The Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde bats for separate law for stringent action against milk adulteration appreciated the 8,000 crore allocation for Maharashtra, but the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government is reportedly unhappy with the budget’s focus on states like Bihar and Andhra Pradesh. Shinde has directed the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and Dairy Development departments to launch a joint campaign against milk adulteration, assuring the Home department’s cooperation.
Shinde termed food adulteration a serious offense that adversely impacts children. He warned that the next generation will suffer, and many will fall prey to life-threatening diseases like cancer due to food adulteration. He said stricter action beyond the MPDA Act is needed against those indulging in food adulteration.
The Chief Minister stated that the state will also request the center to make food adulteration a non-bailable offense. He has directed the Dairy Development department to take steps to enact a separate law to curb milk adulteration in the state.
